Elara by Hilton Grand Vacations is an all-suite, non-gaming tower on the Center Strip, tucked directly behind Planet Hollywood and wrapped by the Miracle Mile Shops. Rising 52 stories with well over 1,200 units, it is one of the largest timeshare resorts in the world, and its suites are the reason to book: studios with kitchenettes step up to one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom layouts with full kitchens, separate living areas and real room to spread out. That makes it a genuinely practical base for families, groups and longer stays, where you can cook, do a load of laundry and put the kids in their own room a few steps from the middle of the Strip.

The trade-offs are worth knowing. Despite a long reputation for having no resort fee and free parking, Elara now charges both a daily resort fee and for self-parking, so factor those into any rate comparison. There is no casino and no full-service spa on the property, though Planet Hollywood's casino and the Mandara Spa adjoin the resort through the shops. Dining on-site is limited to a lobby Starbucks, a grab-and-go marketplace and a couple of bars rather than a full restaurant, so you will lean on the Miracle Mile Shops next door for meals. It is also a working timeshare, so expect the occasional invitation to an owners' presentation. What you get in return is space, quiet and a location that sits dead-center yet a step removed from the casino-floor noise, a fair deal if suite space matters more to you than on-site gaming or dining.

Does Elara charge a resort fee?

Yes, and it's a recent change at a property that went years with no resort fee, so check your quote carefully. The Daily Resort Charge of about $45 per night including tax is added on top of the room rate, but it does credit back two Starbucks coffees or bottled waters a day along with Wi-Fi and in-room streaming, so factor both the cost and the perks into any rate comparison.

Is parking free at Elara?

Not anymore. Self-parking in the covered garage runs about $25 a night and valet about $35, both with in-and-out privileges so you can come and go between outings. Like the resort fee, paid parking is a fairly recent change at a hotel that used to offer it free, so don't assume an older rate still applies.

Is Elara connected to Planet Hollywood and the Miracle Mile Shops?

Yes, and it's the resort's biggest convenience. The tower sits directly behind Planet Hollywood and opens into the Miracle Mile Shops, so you can reach the Planet Hollywood casino, the Mandara Spa and dozens of the mall's 170-plus stores and restaurants without stepping outside, which is a real plus in summer heat or late at night. In effect the casino, spa and full-service dining Elara lacks on-site are all just an indoor walk away.

How far is Elara from the Las Vegas Strip?

It's on the Center Strip, not off it. Because the tower sits directly behind Planet Hollywood and connects through the Miracle Mile Shops, reaching Las Vegas Boulevard is roughly a three-to-five-minute walk, and Paris, Bellagio and the shows of the Center Strip are all within an easy stroll.

Is there a restaurant or free breakfast at Elara?

No full-service restaurant and no included breakfast. On-site you'll find a lobby Starbucks, a quick-service grab-and-go marketplace and a couple of bars, and the marketplace plus the in-suite kitchens make it easy to self-cater a breakfast or two. For sit-down meals, the Miracle Mile Shops and Planet Hollywood next door put dozens of restaurants within a short walk.
