Hampton Inn Las Vegas/North Speedway

A non-gaming, select-service Hampton Inn in the North Las Vegas business park, minutes from the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Nellis AFB. Free hot breakfast, free self-parking, an outdoor pool and no resort fee make it a practical race-weekend base, though you will need a car for the Strip, about 10 miles south.

Is Hampton Inn Las Vegas/North Speedway Worth It? Honest Review, Rooms & Rates

The Hampton Inn Las Vegas/North Speedway is a non-gaming, select-service hotel in the North Las Vegas business park off Craig Road, a couple of minutes from I-15. It skips Strip glamour in favor of the things a road-tripper actually uses: clean, contemporary rooms, free hot breakfast, free self-parking and no resort fee.

The draw is where it sits. The Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Nellis Air Force Base are both a short drive away, which makes it a sensible base for a NASCAR or NHRA race weekend, a visit to the base, or anyone who just wants a quiet, budget-friendly room away from the crowds. The Strip is roughly 10 miles south, about 15 to 20 minutes by car outside of rush hour. On-site you get an outdoor pool, a small fitness center and a business center, and pets are welcome for a fee.

The trade-offs are the flip side of that location. This is a suburban business-park hotel, not a resort: there is no casino, no nightlife and nothing within walking distance, so you will want a car for the Strip, restaurants and the airport. Dining on-site begins and ends with the complimentary breakfast, and on race weekends rooms sell out early and rates climb well above the usual from-price. If you want to step straight onto the Strip, stay closer in. But for a fuss-free, fee-free room near the Speedway, it does the job.

Insider tipThe standard king and two-queen rooms come with a coffee maker but no in-room refrigerator or microwave, so pack a cooler if you want cold drinks and snacks after a hot day at the track. The hotel also keeps barbecue grills on-site, handy for cooking your own dinner given that the only meal served here is the morning breakfast.

Frequently asked questions

How far is the hotel from the Strip and the airport?

The Strip sits roughly 10 miles south, about 15 to 20 minutes by car outside peak traffic, and the property is only a couple of minutes off I-15 via Craig Road, so most of that run is freeway rather than surface streets. There is no shuttle to the Strip or the airport, so budget for a rental car or rideshare.

Is there a resort fee, and what will I actually pay?

There is no resort fee, so the rate you book (from $115) is the rate you pay, plus tax. The one add-on to plan for is the pet fee if you bring a dog or cat; otherwise there are no mandatory daily charges tacked on at checkout.

Is there a restaurant on-site?

The only food served is the complimentary hot breakfast each morning, a Hampton brand standard. There is no restaurant and no room service, and nothing within walking distance in the business park, so lunch and dinner mean a short drive out.

Are pets allowed, and what does it cost?

Yes, up to two dogs or cats (each up to 50 lbs) are welcome. The $25 per-night fee is capped at $150 for the whole stay, so a longer visit works out cheaper per night than the nightly rate suggests. Note that pets cannot be left unattended in the room, which is worth planning around if you will be out at the track all day.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is 3 p.m. and check-out is noon. The front desk is staffed 24 hours, so a late arrival after a long drive or a night race is no problem, and you will need to be at least 21 with a credit or debit card on file for incidentals to reserve.

How far ahead should I book for a race weekend?

Book months out. As one of the nearest brand hotels to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway it sells out first and rates climb well above the off-peak from-price for NASCAR and NHRA weekends. Leave extra time on race day too, as the roads around the track jam solid before the green flag.
