Homewood Suites by Hilton Las Vegas City Center is an all-suite, extended-stay hotel set about half a mile west of the Strip, just across Interstate 15. Every one of its 158 studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites has a full kitchen - full-size refrigerator, microwave, two-burner stovetop and dishwasher - plus a separate living area and a sofa bed, which makes it a practical base for families, self-caterers and anyone staying more than a night or two.

The extended-stay perks are the real draw: a free hot breakfast every morning, free Wi-Fi, an outdoor pool and a fitness center, and - unusually for the neighborhood - no resort fee. Rates stay modest for how close you are to the action.

The trade-offs are the flip side of that value. This is a business-and-suburban property, not a resort: there's no casino, no on-site restaurant beyond breakfast and no nightlife.
