The STRAT is impossible to miss: its 1,149-foot tower is the tallest observation tower in the United States, topped by genuinely terrifying thrill rides and the revolving Top of the World restaurant with 360-degree views over the city. It's a destination in itself, even if you're not staying.

Down below, the rooms are straightforward and budget-friendly, with a casino, restaurants and a pool. The catch is the location — it's the last stop at the north end of the Strip before Downtown, so the central-Strip casinos are a rideshare away. For the views, the rides and sheer value, it's a fun pick.

Room rates run low, but factor in the roughly $40-plus-tax resort fee and $20 self-parking (free for Nevada residents) when comparing totals. The upside of the north-Strip address: Atomic Golf is right next door, Downtown and Fremont Street are a five-minute drive, and SkyPod tickets are discounted for hotel guests.

It anchors the far north end of the Strip at 2000 Las Vegas Blvd — roughly 2 miles from the center-Strip resorts, so plan on a rideshare rather than a walk. The upside of that address: Downtown and Fremont Street are just a five-minute drive north.

Does The STRAT charge a resort fee, and what does it cover?

Yes — about $40 plus tax per night, which includes in-room internet. Rooms are cheap up front, so add the resort fee and the $20 self-parking to your total when you're comparing nightly rates.

Is parking free at The STRAT?
