Esther's Kitchen is the restaurant that made the Arts District a food destination — James Trees' seasonal Italian, opened 2018 and relocated in 2024 to a much bigger home at 1131 South Main with the Treehouse bar attached. In 2026 it collected the loudest possible endorsement: USA Today's Restaurant of the Year, plus an OpenTable top-brunch-in-America nod.

The kitchen's spine is handmade pasta and wood-fired sourdough: rigatoni carbonara ($28), chitarra cacio e pepe ($26), pizzas under $25, secondi topping out at an $87 ribeye. At $50-90 a head it's the best value on this list by a wide margin — and the 'Pastaholics Anonymous' half-price pasta windows at the bar (early and late) push the math into absurd territory.

The fame tax is real: weekends fill, the room runs loud, Arts District parking is a sport, and the hidden-gem era is long over. Book ahead for prime times, walk in at the bar otherwise, and know the honest framing on accolades — Trees is a past James Beard finalist (2020), not a current nominee; the 2026 hardware is USA Today's.
