Where to Stay in Las Vegas: Strip vs Downtown vs Off-Strip

Where to stay in Las Vegas: how the center, south and north Strip, Downtown/Fremont and off-Strip compare — and which area fits your trip.

Pick your area by what you want to be near — and how much walking and transport you'll accept.

Center Strip — best for first-timers

Around Bellagio, Caesars Palace, The Cosmopolitan and Paris. You're walking distance to the most landmarks, shows and dining. Browse hotels or go upscale with luxury hotels.

South Strip — value & families

Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur and MGM Grand, linked by free trams. Good for families and easy airport access. See mid-range options.

North Strip — newer & a bit quieter

Wynn, Resorts World, the Strat and the Sphere area. Newer rooms, slightly calmer, with a short hop to the center.

Downtown / Fremont — cheaper & classic

The original Vegas: lower room rates, lower resort fees, and the Fremont Street Experience. You'll want transport to reach the Strip. Great for budget trips.

Best nightly rates and often free parking, but you'll rely on a car or rideshare. Good for longer stays or day trips.

Don't forget resort fees

Most Strip hotels add a resort fee (typically $40–60/night plus tax) and may charge for parking — factor it into comparisons. More in Las Vegas on a Budget.
