MJ Live opens at the Saxe Theater tonight, its sixth Las Vegas home

Monday, September 21, 7 p.m.: MJ Live starts its run at the Saxe Theater inside the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood. The concert-style Michael Jackson tribute played its last night in Harrah's Showroom on September 9, sat dark for eleven days, and now settles into a six-shows-a-week pattern, Monday through Saturday at 7 p.m. with Sundays off, according to the theater's page and the Review-Journal's report on the move.

What changes for a visitor is mostly the walk. The Saxe Theater isn't a hotel showroom: it sits in the retail loop wrapped around Planet Hollywood, so you enter through the mall and hunt for the door rather than crossing a casino floor. The theater runs three productions a night in that room, Vegas! The Show at 5:30, MJ Live at 7 and a comedy headliner at 8:30, which explains the fixed 7 p.m. slot. Ages 5 and up, minors with an adult, every seat ticketed.

Price is the other change, in both directions. Fox5 reported an announced all-in entry of $90.46 when the move was revealed in July, up from the $69 the Harrah's run charged. As of September 21 the theater's own ticketing lists seats from $66 against a $107 list price, so the real floor sits below the headline number. The Saxe Theater is MJ Live's sixth home since the show's Rio debut: The Strat from 2015 to 2021, Tropicana until March 2024, Sahara for most of that year, then Harrah's from November 2024 until this month. Old listings and saved links can still point at the wrong hotel for a while.

Our take: buy from the theater's calendar rather than the first "from $90" you see, and treat the mall entrance as part of the plan: give yourself ten extra minutes and you'll be in a seat for the 7 p.m. curtain instead of asking a kiosk for directions.
