The $10,000 WSOP Main Event starts July 2 — and anyone can walk in and watch

Poker's world championship runs July 2–13 at Paris and Horseshoe on the Strip, and the rail is free to spectate.

Poker's biggest tournament hits its climax this month. The $10,000 buy-in WSOP Main Event runs July 2–13 across Paris Las Vegas and Horseshoe, the two connected properties mid-Strip that host the series. Four starting flights run July 2–5, then the field plays down until the final table is set on July 13. The nine finalists return for a prime-time ESPN broadcast on August 3–5.

Here's what most visitors don't realize: you don't need to play to be part of it. The tournament floor is open to spectators, free, and you can stand on the rail a few feet from thousands of players chasing a seven-figure prize. It's one of the best free things to do in Vegas in early July — air-conditioned, buzzing, and genuinely dramatic once the money bubble bursts.

If you do want to play, the $10K Main Event isn't the only door: the series runs dozens of smaller daily events all summer with buy-ins from about $300, and both host casinos spread cash games around the clock.

Our take: skip the $10K unless you've got real tournament reps — the field is brutal. But absolutely wander the floor as a spectator; it's free, it's cool inside, and watching the bubble burst on Day 3 beats most paid attractions on the Strip. Go on a weekday afternoon when it's less mobbed.
