What is Las Vegas like in January?
1 answer
Cool, dry and short on daylight, with two expensive convention weeks wrapped around two cheap ones. Highs run 57 to 60°F, lows near 40°F, and the sun sets before 5:10 p.m. all month.
Weather
Normal highs go from 57°F on January 1 to 60°F on the 31st and lows from 39 to 42°F, with about three nights touching freezing and three days with any rain. It is the calmest month for wind, so 40°F feels like 40°F: a real coat for the walk back from a 9 p.m. show, a sweater for the 2 p.m. sun.
Prices follow the conventions
- January 6 to 9, 2027: CES, with media days from the 4th. In 2026 it brought nearly 150,000 people, and hotels near the Convention Center and The Venetian ran a $439 median against $269 in a quiet week.
- January 11 to 14: the softest stretch of the month.
- January 19 to 22: World of Concrete and SHOT Show, a second spike the holiday calendars never mention.
- January 25: the College Football Playoff final at Allegiant Stadium prices up the weekend before it.
- January 26 to 28: the second quiet window.
Downtown barely moves whichever week it is: about $100 a night in January 2026 against $215 on the Strip.
What is on
Sphere has the Eagles on January 15, 16, 22, 23 and Metallica on the 28th and 30th, and the Golden Knights have seven home games. The holiday lights stay on through January 3, then the Bellagio Conservatory switches to Lunar New Year in the second week.
Dayclubs are closed until March and resort pools keep one heated pool on winter hours; Stadium Swim at Circa is the real winter pool, open daily from $20. Red Rock and Valley of Fire are at their best, with a timed-entry reservation needed at Red Rock between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Date-by-date detail is in Las Vegas in January; the month against the rest of the year in best time to visit.
