What should you wear in Las Vegas?
1 answer
For most of the trip, whatever is comfortable: shorts, jeans and sneakers work on the Strip, in the casinos and in most restaurants. The two exceptions are nightclubs, which check at the door, and the weather, which swings more than people expect.
Daytime
There is no casino dress code; you can play blackjack in flip-flops. Feet are what ruin days here. The Strip is 4.2 miles end to end and the resorts are huge, so a restaurant "in your hotel" can be a half-mile walk. Bring shoes you have already broken in.
Nightclubs and dayclubs
- Men, turned away: athletic wear, shorts of any kind, athletic shoes (the nice Jordans included), flip-flops or sandals, baseball caps, hoodies, tank tops.
- Men, what works: dark fitted jeans or trousers, a collared shirt, dress shoes. No suit needed.
- Women: far more room. A cocktail dress, a jumpsuit or a polished top with heels or dressy flats; still no sneakers or beachwear.
- Dayclubs: swimwear with a cover-up and sandals. The upscale ones turn away baggy basketball shorts and big logos.
Door staff get stricter on busy nights and with big groups of men.
Restaurants and shows
Smart casual almost everywhere, even the good rooms, and shows have no dress code. Theaters and dining rooms run cold, so a light layer saves the night when it is 105°F outside and 68°F at your table.
By season
- Summer: 104°F afternoons. Light, loose clothing, a hat and real sunscreen.
- Spring and fall: 79 to 81°F days with cool evenings.
- Winter: 57°F days but nights near freezing. Pack a real jacket.
