Las Vegas in October 2026
At 8 p.m. on an October night the Bellagio fountains play to a crowd in light jackets, and the pavement under them has finally stopped radiating the day's heat. Las Vegas in October 2026 is the payoff month: 81°F afternoons and 60°F nights on the long-term normals, the last dayclub weekends around October 11–17, Metallica opening Sphere on October 1, NASCAR and Raiders football the first weekend, Las Vegas Pride on October 9 and 17, and Halloween on a Saturday. The catch is the bill: October 2025 carried the highest average room rate of any month that year.
October is the month Las Vegas turns comfortable again: a normal high of 81°F, a normal low near 60°F, a third of an inch of rain for the whole month and sunshine 87 percent of daylight hours. By the LVCVA's own 2025 numbers it is also the most expensive month of the year to sleep here.
- Weather: highs slide from about 88°F on October 1 to about 75°F on October 31; nights from the mid-60s to the low 50s. Two rain days in a typical October.
- Prices and crowds: October 2025 posted the highest average room rate of the year ($203.88 citywide, $219.56 on the Strip) and 92.7% weekend occupancy. Midweek ran 80.1%.
- Pools: the big dayclubs wind down between October 11 and 17; hotel pools mostly stay open through the month with shorter hours, and a few run all winter.
- Big dates: Metallica opens Sphere on Thursday, October 1; NASCAR weekend and the Raiders–Chiefs game land on October 3–4; Las Vegas Pride is October 9 and 17; Halloween is a Saturday.
October weather in Las Vegas, by the numbers
The 1991–2020 normals for Harry Reid International Airport, the official Las Vegas station, put October at an 81.2°F average high and 59.6°F average low, with 0.32 inches of precipitation. Those are monthly averages, and October is the steepest temperature slide of the year, so the date matters more than the month. The normal high on October 1 is 88°F with a 66°F low; by October 15 it's 82°F and 60°F; by October 31 it's 75°F and 54°F. Early October still averages about six days in the 90s, and a 100°F reading is rare but not unheard of.
Rain is a non-factor for planning: two measurable rain days in a typical October, and the month usually carries the year's last thunderstorm rather than any sustained wet spell. What does change fast is daylight. Sunrise moves from 6:34 a.m. to 7:01 a.m. across the month and sunset from 6:25 p.m. to 5:46 p.m., so a day trip that felt roomy on October 3 is tight on October 30. Clocks don't change until Sunday, November 1, so the whole month stays on Pacific Daylight Time.
In practice the first ten days still feel like summer at noon, with pool weather all afternoon, while the last ten days are the desert-autumn ideal our guide to the best time to visit describes, with a real chill once the sun goes.
Crowds and prices, and which weekends spike
Hotels were fuller in October 2025 than in any month of that year except April: 83.7% occupancy citywide on 3.41 million visitors. Weekend occupancy hit 92.7%; midweek ran 80.1%. The citywide average daily rate was $203.88 and the Strip's was $219.56, both the highest of any month in 2025 and about 32 percent above July's $154.76. Convention attendance was 603,600, third-highest of the year.
Two weekends carry most of the premium in 2026. The first, October 1–4, stacks Metallica's Sphere opening on Thursday and Saturday, a Golden Knights home game against Anaheim on Friday, October 2, the NASCAR Cup Series South Point 400 on Sunday, October 4, and the Raiders hosting the Chiefs at Allegiant Stadium the same afternoon at 1:25 p.m. The last, October 29–31, stacks Halloween on a Saturday with Metallica's final October pair, the NHRA Nevada Nationals at the Speedway from October 29, Ricky Martin at Fontainebleau on the 30th and 31st and The Smashing Pumpkins at MGM Grand Garden Arena on the 30th. Book either weekend early or move your dates.
Conventions matter less than the sports and concert calendar this month. Three still move rates at their host resorts. G2E, the gaming industry's trade show, runs September 28 to October 1 at The Venetian Expo. IMEX America takes over Mandalay Bay October 13–15. Money20/20 USA fills The Venetian October 18–21. Each pushes rates at the host resort and its neighbors more than across the whole Strip. The cheapest nights of the month are the Sunday-to-Wednesday stretches between the two big weekends, and October 18–21 away from The Venetian tends to be the calmest of them. Resort fees don't drop with the season; read up on how resort fees work before comparing rates.
Which pools are still open in October
The DJ dayclubs run on published event calendars, and in 2026 those calendars end in mid-October. TAO Beach at The Venetian closed for the season after its October 9-11 weekend, and Palm Tree Beach Club at MGM Grand listed its last party on Saturday, October 17. Encore Beach Club has day parties on the calendar through Saturday, October 24, plus night sessions to the end of the month. After that, the only big pool party in town is Marquee Dayclub, which encloses its deck in a heated dome for winter.
Hotel pools are a different story. Most resort decks stay open through October on shorter hours than the July version, with closing times that creep earlier as the month goes on, and a few never close at all: the adults-only Venus pool at Caesars Palace runs year-round, and Downtown, Stadium Swim at Circa heats all six pools and opens 365 days. Late-October pool afternoons are 75°F afternoons, though, and the water gets chilly even while the deck is still pleasant. Check the current dates on our pools and dayclubs guide and the individual pool pages, because resorts publish closing dates late and adjust them with the weather.
Metallica at Sphere and the October concert calendar

Metallica's residency at Sphere, Life Burns Faster, opens Thursday, October 1 and plays Thursday-and-Saturday pairs all month: October 1 and 3, 8 and 10, 15 and 17, 22 and 24, and 29 and 31, all at 8:30 p.m. The two shows of each weekend share no songs, which is why fans book both nights. Standard tickets sold out at the on-sale earlier this year, so what's left is resale, and October is the priciest stretch of the run because it's the opening. Sphere's other October show is The Wizard of Oz at Sphere, which plays most days of the month.
The rest of the month's headline concerts, from our live schedule as of September 2, 2026:
- October 1 and 3: Scorpions at PH Live were postponed; the residency now runs September 9 to 25, 2027.
- October 2, 3, 7, 9 and 10: Josh Groban at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
- October 2–17, eight dates: New Kids On the Block at Dolby Live, Park MGM.
- October 2–4: Diana Ross at Encore Theater, Wynn; Brandon Flowers follows there October 5–6.
- October 3: Wu-Tang Clan at T-Mobile Arena; Lynyrd Skynyrd at the Pearl, Palms.
- October 8–17, six dates: Barry Manilow at Westgate.
- October 16–31, nine dates: Earth, Wind and Fire at The Venetian Theatre.
- October 21, 23 and 24: Tom Jones at Encore Theater.
- October 23 and 24: Tim McGraw at The Colosseum; Charli xcx plays MGM Grand Garden Arena on the 23rd.
- October 23–31, five dates: Mary J. Blige at Dolby Live.
- October 30–31: Ricky Martin at Fontainebleau; The Smashing Pumpkins at MGM Grand Garden Arena on the 30th.
One production show opens this month: Now You See Me Live, the stage version of the heist-magic films, starts October 15 in the MGM Grand Theater with 7 p.m. shows and 9:30 p.m. late shows on many nights. Everything else that's playing is on our shows page, and the residency list tracks the headliners who come and go through the fall.
Sports, Pride and the other big dates
Hockey is already under way by October. The Vegas Golden Knights open their season at home on Tuesday, September 29 against Chicago, then play eight October home games at T-Mobile Arena: Friday, October 2 against Anaheim, followed by the 8th, 10th, 15th, 17th, 20th, 27th and 30th. Most are 7 p.m. faceoffs; the October 30 game starts at 3 p.m. The Raiders have three home Sundays at Allegiant Stadium, all 1:25 p.m. kickoffs: Kansas City on October 4, Buffalo on October 18 and the Los Angeles Rams on October 25. Las Vegas Motor Speedway runs its fall NASCAR weekend October 3–4, with the Cup Series South Point 400 on the Sunday, then the NHRA Nevada Nationals October 29 to November 1.
Las Vegas Pride keeps its October tradition. The free Night Parade rolls down Fourth Street in Downtown on Friday, October 9, with a pre-show from 6 p.m. and the parade itself at 7 p.m., and the Pride Festival runs Saturday, October 17 from noon to 10 p.m. at the Desert Breeze Events Center on the west side of the valley.
Halloween falls on a Saturday
October 31, 2026 is a Saturday, which makes it the biggest costume night the Strip has had in years: the big clubs sell their Halloween tickets weeks ahead, and hotel rates for October 30–31 price like a holiday weekend. Our Halloween in Las Vegas guide has the party calendar and the costume rules. Beyond the parties, Universal Horror Unleashed at AREA15 runs its four haunted houses Thursday through Sunday evenings only, so a midweek visit needs to land on a Thursday, and the seasonal Haunted Brunch show adds October dates from the 2nd. Halloween weekend also collides with Metallica's October 29 and 31 shows and the NHRA at the Speedway.
The best month for the outdoors around Las Vegas
Red Rock Canyon, about 17 miles and 30 minutes west of the Strip, becomes a hiking destination again in October after a summer when the trails bake above 100°F. One rule kicks in on October 1: any vehicle entering the Scenic Drive between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. needs a timed-entry reservation from Recreation.gov, released 30 days ahead at 7 a.m. Pacific, and cool-season weekend slots sell out. Arrive before 8 a.m. and you need no reservation at all; the 13-mile one-way loop opens at 6 a.m. and closes at 7 p.m. in October. Entry is $20 per vehicle. Trail picks and the fine print are on our Red Rock Canyon page.
Valley of Fire, an hour northeast, is the other October win: the marquee trails closed for heat since May 15, Fire Wave and White Domes among them, reopen on October 1. The west entrance, the I-15 side most Strip visitors use, is closed Monday through Thursday through the end of 2026 for construction, so on those days you come in through the east entrance off Northshore Road. Entry is $10 per vehicle with Nevada plates and $15 for everyone else, and with sunset at 5:46 p.m. by Halloween, an afternoon that starts at 2 p.m. is already racing the light.
What to pack for Las Vegas in October
- A light jacket or sweater for every evening after about October 10, and a real jacket for the last week, when lows reach the low 50s.
- Summer clothes for daytime in the first half of the month. Shorts are fine at noon on October 5; by October 25 most people are in jeans.
- Sunscreen and a hat regardless of the date. October sunshine averages 87 percent of daylight hours, and the midday sun at this latitude still burns.
- Swimwear if you're in town before about October 17, when the dayclubs stop. Hotel pools stay open after that, but the water cools.
- Closed-toe shoes for Red Rock or Valley of Fire, and a layer for the car: desert mornings run 20 degrees cooler than the afternoon.
Restaurant and show dress codes don't change with the season; our guide to what to wear in Las Vegas has the specifics by venue type. And if the rates for your dates look steep, the November guide covers the calmer weeks after F1 weekend.
