Ahern Hotel Las Vegas

The Ahern Hotel is the red nine-story tower at 300 West Sahara Avenue, a quarter-mile west of the Strip's north end and about an eight-minute walk from the STRAT. It opened in 2016 as the Lucky Dragon, a Chinese-themed casino that filed for bankruptcy within 15 months and closed in October 2018. Equipment-rental magnate Don Ahern bought the building for $36 million in April 2019, dropped the gaming and reopened it as a non-smoking hotel with 203 rooms. The 27,500-square-foot casino floor was earmarked for conference space, and the property now sells over 30,000 square feet of it as the Ahern Hotel & Convention Center, which tells you who the place is built for: small conferences, event crowds and travelers who'd rather sleep somewhere quiet than above a slot floor.

Two things separate the Ahern from nearly everything on the Strip: no resort fee, and parking that costs nothing. The garage is free for guests, so is Wi-Fi, and the only extra you'll meet at check-in is a refundable $100-a-night security hold. Standard rooms are 350 square feet with a mini fridge, an in-room safe and a shower (the hotel's room pages list showers, not tubs), while the 550-square-foot King Suite adds a separate living room behind floor-to-ceiling windows that face the Strip. Sample rates started at $99 a night for a Standard Double as of September 29, 2026, before tax.

The pool is guests-only and runs 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily with a bar and first-come cabanas; the hotel pitches it as a summer amenity and booking listings mark it seasonal, so confirm it's open for a winter stay. There's a fitness room, listed as open 24 hours. Off the lobby, the David Uhl Gallery shows the motorcycle and aviation oil paintings of Harley-Davidson's first licensed painter, daily 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Upstairs, the second-floor Showroom runs Adam London's Laughternoon matinee Thursday to Monday and the Twist & Shout Beatles tribute on Thursday to Saturday evenings.

The trade-offs are real. Sahara Avenue here is a wide arterial road rather than a walkable neighborhood: the STRAT and SAHARA Las Vegas are 8 to 10 minutes on foot, and the rest of the Strip is a rideshare, so treat this as an off-Strip address. Dining has thinned since the early years. Joel's Chophouse closed in May 2025 and its room became event space, leaving All American Sports Kitchen (daily 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.), Slice pizza and Aroma Barista Bar on site; for a proper dinner, the Golden Steer, the city's oldest steakhouse, is next door at 308 West Sahara. The Las Vegas Festival Grounds sit right next door on the corner of Sahara and Las Vegas Boulevard, so big festival weekends bring crowds and road closures. The hotel enforces quiet hours overnight, pets aren't allowed, and there's no casino. If you want neon outside your door, book the STRAT and pay its resort fee instead.
