Can you walk around the Strip or Fremont Street with an alcoholic drink?
1 answer
On the Strip, yes, in a plastic or paper cup or an aluminum can, never glass. Under the Fremont Street canopy, only if a bar or casino in the district poured it, in plastic.
The Strip
- Allowed: walking the sidewalk with a drink in plastic, paper or an aluminum can. A drink poured by a casino bar can leave the building with you.
- Never: glass, at any time, whatever is in it.
- The store rule: you may not open a drink bought packaged (from a convenience store, supermarket or liquor store) within 1,000 feet of where you bought it. In practice the corner-store beer goes back to the room.
- New Year's Eve: from 6 p.m. the county adds a ban on glass and metal containers and a bag-size rule.
Fremont Street
Fremont is inside the city of Las Vegas, and stricter. Under the canopy you can carry a drink only if a bar or casino in the district poured it, in plastic or paper. Store-bought cans and bottles and anything glass are banned and security confiscates them. Fremont East, the bar district past the canopy, follows the city's general rules: drink inside, not on the sidewalk.
Everywhere
- You must be 21 and carry ID; casino security can ask for it on the floor.
- An open container in a vehicle is illegal under state law for drivers and passengers alike.
- Public drunkenness gets a light touch on the Strip until it becomes a problem, and being carried out of a casino gets you banned from the property.
The 21-and-over rules are in first time in Las Vegas; sidewalk logistics in can you walk the Strip.
