What is the gambling age in Las Vegas? Can you gamble at 18?
1 answer
21, for everything, and 18 is not enough for any of it. Slots, table games, the sportsbook, poker, keno, the betting apps: all 21 and over in Nevada, with no exceptions.
Other states with 18-and-over casinos have nothing to do with it. You also have to be 21 to drink, to get into a nightclub or dayclub, and at many resorts to check in on your own (some set 18 for the room; the Vanderpump Hotel, for one, requires 21).
How it is enforced
- Security and dealers ask for ID from anyone who looks under 30.
- Only a valid government photo ID counts: a passport for foreign visitors. A photo of your ID on your phone does not.
- Sportsbook apps verify age and location before they take a bet.
- An underage winner does not get paid. The casino voids the win, keeps the money, and can hand the player to Metro: gambling under 21 is a misdemeanor for the player and a licensing problem for the casino, which is why they do not look the other way.
What under-21s can do
- Walk through a casino on the way to the elevators, a restaurant, a show or the pool, but not stop at a machine or stand at a table
- Eat anywhere, and see most shows
- Swim at the resort pools (not the dayclubs or Circa)
- Visit the arcades and the Pinball Hall of Fame
The 18 to 20 group gets caught out most, because 18 buys nothing in a Nevada casino. Rules for younger kids (strollers, curfew, which shows admit them) are in Las Vegas with kids; first-timer orientation in first time in Las Vegas.
