Is the Las Vegas Bowl Worth It? New Year's Eve Football at Allegiant, Honestly
The 35th Las Vegas Bowl kicks off at 12:45 p.m. PT on Thursday, December 31, 2026 at Allegiant Stadium, on ESPN, the second straight New Year's Eve edition after decades of pre-Christmas dates. The 2026 matchup pairs a Southeastern Conference team with an opponent from the Big Ten, Big 12, ACC or the former Pac-12 pair of Oregon State and Washington State, and the two schools are named only after the regular season ends in early December. The game dates to 1992, when it replaced Fresno's California Bowl; it lived at Sam Boyd Stadium through 2019 and moved to Allegiant in 2021, where Utah beat Nebraska 44-22 last December in front of 34,269, the biggest crowd of the stadium era.
Official tickets were not on sale as of October 7, 2026: the stadium's event page says on-sale to be announced, and the organizers say timing will follow. Every price you can find today is a speculative resale listing for a game with no teams, so we quote none. The stadium's standard clear-bag policy applies, and the Strip's New Year's Eve closures start in the afternoon, which makes a midday kickoff on the west side of I-15 an awkward fit with evening plans on the Boulevard.
What to expect from the room: Allegiant seats 65,000 and the five bowls played there have averaged about 24,000, roughly a third full, with two in three fans from out of town. That is good news for anyone who wants a cheap seat close to the field once tickets exist, and bad news for atmosphere. For a visitor it is a four-hour game that ends in time for the Strip's countdown. The sports listings cover the Raiders home dates in the same building.
Insider tipBuy after the bowl selections, not before: with a third of the seats filled in a typical year, lower-bowl tickets at face value are still there in mid-December, and a resale seat bought in October for an unknown matchup is money spent on a guess.Check Tickets & Prices →
