Indian Territory by Maverick Helicopters

Indian Territory by Maverick Helicopters

A full-day Maverick helicopter trip from the Las Vegas Strip to Grand Canyon West that lands twice — once deep in the canyon for a champagne toast, once up on the rim.

Is Indian Territory by Maverick Helicopters Worth It? Review & Booking

Indian Territory is Maverick Helicopters' flagship Grand Canyon West flight out of Las Vegas. Unlike the many air-only helicopter tours, it puts you on the ground twice: a private landing thousands of feet below the rim beside the Colorado River, and a second stop at Grand Canyon West itself. Counting the hotel shuttle at each end, the whole outing runs about seven hours.

After lifting off from Maverick's Strip terminal, the flight passes Hoover Dam, Lake Mead and the extinct volcano at Fortification Hill before dropping into the canyon. At the floor landing you get roughly half an hour with champagne and light refreshments; the second landing gives about two and a half hours to explore Guano Point and Eagle Point on foot, with the glass Skywalk available as an optional add-on.

It is an expensive, full-day commitment — tickets start around $759 — and the "refreshments" are a snack, not a meal. Summer heat at the canyon floor can be brutal, seasonal haze can flatten the long-range views, and seats are assigned by weight so a window is not guaranteed. But for travelers who want to actually set foot in the Grand Canyon rather than just photograph it from the air, it is one of the most complete day trips available from Las Vegas — book a clear, cooler day to get the most from it.

Insider tipYou are weighed at check-in and seated by weight for balance, so a window is never guaranteed — arrive early and ask the ground crew about seating before you board.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the Indian Territory tour take?

Plan on roughly seven hours door to door once the hotel shuttle is counted. That covers about 45 minutes of flying each way, two and a half hours of free time at Grand Canyon West and a half-hour at the canyon floor.

Does it include hotel pickup?

Yes, a complimentary roundtrip shuttle is included for hotels within about five miles of Maverick's terminal. If your hotel is farther out you make your own way to the Strip terminal to meet the group.

Is the Skywalk included?

No. The glass Skywalk is a separate paid add-on, and no cameras, phones or bags are allowed onto the deck. You can skip it entirely and still walk Guano Point and Eagle Point on the included rim time.

How is this different from a cheaper helicopter tour?

The budget flights only fly over the canyon and turn around. Indian Territory actually lands twice, so you stand on the canyon floor and spend hours on the rim rather than seeing it through a window.

Is any food provided?

Only champagne and a light snack at the canyon-floor landing — there is no meal. Grand Canyon West has food available for purchase during your rim time, or you can bring your own.

When is the best time to go?

Spring and fall bring the most comfortable canyon-floor temperatures and the clearest air. Summer can be extremely hot at the bottom of the canyon, and haze on hot days can soften the distant views.
