Grand Canyon West Rim Tour by Pink Jeep

A small-group Grand Canyon West Rim day trip in Pink Jeep's enclosed Tour Trekker: Skywalk admission, lunch on the rim, Eagle Point, Guano Point and a Hoover Dam photo stop, with the same guide all nine hours.

Is the Pink Jeep Grand Canyon West Rim Tour Worth It? Review and What's Included

Pink Jeep's Grand Canyon West Rim day trip is the small-group, everything-included version of the classic Las Vegas canyon run: hotel pickup, a 7 AM departure, Skywalk admission and lunch on the rim are all in the price, and the same guide stays with the group from the lobby to the drop-off nine hours later. You ride in a Tour Trekker, the company's custom enclosed vehicle with leather captain's chairs and oversized windows, past Lake Mead and through a Joshua tree forest to Eagle Point, where the Hualapai Tribe runs Grand Canyon West. The Skywalk there is a horseshoe of glass that pushes 70 feet past the rim with the canyon floor about 4,000 feet below. Guano Point follows, with a short scramble to a 360-degree overlook and the remains of the tram that once hauled bat guano across the canyon, then lunch at a West Rim cafe and a photo stop at Hoover Dam on the way back.

The price is the first thing to understand. The operator's list price is $319 an adult and $294 for children aged 3 to 12; through the booking button it runs about $329 before fees. That is well above the big-bus West Rim tours, which can cost half as much, and the difference is the group size, the dedicated guide and the fact that the Skywalk and lunch are not add-ons. Children under 3 are not allowed. Everything is on paved roads, but the stops involve gravel, dirt paths and the Guano Point climb, so closed-toe shoes matter.

What to weigh: this is the West Rim, not the National Park. The views are real Grand Canyon, but the South Rim is a different, deeper experience and a much longer day. The 7 AM pickup is early for a Vegas trip, the Skywalk bans cameras and phones on the glass (lockers and a paid photographer handle that), and nine hours is most of your day. For the cheaper coach version see our West Rim bus tour; to add the dam's power plant to the same day, Pink Jeep's 11-hour combo covers both.

Insider tipDo the Guano Point climb before lunch, not after: the viewpoint is the best photo of the day, the path is loose rock, and the group's energy is highest in the morning. Phones are not allowed on the Skywalk glass, so budget for the official photo or skip it and spend the money on the rim viewpoints, which are free to shoot.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Skywalk included in the price?

Yes. Admission to the glass bridge at Eagle Point is part of the ticket, along with lunch, so there is nothing to buy at the canyon unless you want the official Skywalk photos, which the attraction sells separately because phones and cameras are not allowed on the glass.

How does this differ from the bus tours to the West Rim?

Group size and what is included. Coach tours carry dozens of people and usually sell the Skywalk and meals as extras; this one travels as a small group in an enclosed Tour Trekker with one guide for the whole day and the Skywalk and lunch already paid. The trade is price: about $329 a head against roughly half that for a coach.

Is the West Rim the real Grand Canyon?

It is the canyon, on Hualapai tribal land rather than inside Grand Canyon National Park. The walls are shallower here than at the South Rim, which is why a West Rim day trip takes 9 hours instead of 14, and why the Skywalk exists only on this side.

Can I bring young children?

Children must be at least 3, and the child fare covers ages 3 to 12. The day is long and the stops involve walking on gravel and a short climb, so it suits school-age kids better than toddlers.

What should I wear?

Closed-toe walking shoes, a hat and sunscreen, plus a layer for the canyon rim, which runs cooler and windier than Las Vegas. The vehicle is air-conditioned and the roads are paved; the stops are not.
