Red Rock Canyon

This is a half-day guided sightseeing tour of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, run by a Las Vegas operator in a custom Tour Trekker with oversized windows and leather captain's chairs. It rolls hotel pickup, the drive out, and the park itself into roughly four hours, so you see one of southern Nevada's most photographed desert landscapes without renting a car or planning a thing.

The route follows the paved 13-mile scenic drive, stopping for the towering red-and-tan Wilson Cliffs, the Calico Hills, and the 65-million-year-old Keystone Thrust. There is a short walk on the Sandstone Quarry Trail, a look at the agave roasting pits and 800-year-old petroglyph wall at Willow Springs, and time at the Visitor Center, where desert tortoises live in a protected habitat. The guide points out the geology and watches for bighorn sheep, wild burros, and other desert wildlife along the way.

It is a relaxed, mostly-from-the-vehicle tour rather than a hike or an off-road thrill ride, so anyone expecting a rugged 4x4 adventure should book a Rocky Gap Jeep tour instead. There is no meal, the desert heat is punishing from late spring through summer, and wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. As an easy, low-effort way to swap the casino floor for real scenery, though, it is hard to beat.
