The Vegas Mob Tour is a small-group minibus tour that traces organized crime's grip on Las Vegas, from the city's 1940s beginnings through the mob's 1980s peak. Run by Vegas Specialty Tours, it leans on research and firsthand accounts - including from ex-mob hitman Frank Cullotta and former FBI sources - to tell its stories.

The tour opens with a short documentary before the minibus rolls past sites tied to real murders, burglaries, schemes and a car bombing, with the guide narrating over video clips and FBI surveillance photos. A highlight is the drive-by of the house used in Martin Scorsese's "Casino." It is storytelling-led rather than sightseeing-heavy, so you spend most of the time on the bus, leaving it once for an optional photo stop.

The downsides are real: it is a touristy, guide-dependent experience, most stops are drive-bys seen from your seat, and the standard tour includes no meal and no Mob Museum entry. How much you enjoy it hinges on which guide you draw. But for true-crime fans and history buffs it is an entertaining, offbeat way to see a side of Vegas the casinos do not advertise - best treated as a good story session rather than a scenic tour.

Does the Vegas Mob Tour include the Mob Museum?

No - the standard minibus tour does not stop at the Mob Museum, and the operator does not sell an add-on that bundles museum entry. Its one upgrade, the Untouchables Experience, stretches the evening to about five hours by adding a gourmet dinner in the Tuscany gardens and The Rat Pack Is Back show instead.

Where does the tour depart from?

It leaves from the Tuscany Suites & Casino on East Flamingo Road, just east of the Strip. There is no hotel pickup, so plan to get there yourself and check in at the meeting spot a little early.

Is the tour suitable for kids?

The operator's FAQ sets the minimum at 18; a few older listings still say 16 with an adult, so check with the operator before booking a teen. The true-crime content is graphic, so it suits teenagers with an appetite for that far better than younger children.

How much walking is involved?

Very little: the operator exits the vehicle once, for a photo op, and getting out is optional; the minibus has steps but no lift or ramp. Everything else happens from your seat while the guide narrates, which makes it a solid choice in bad weather or summer heat.

Are the mob stories actually accurate?

The operator built the script with consultants including a former FBI special agent and a mob historian, plus footage from ex-hitman Frank Cullotta, so it is more grounded than most themed tours - though it is still delivered with plenty of showmanship.

What's the best time of day to go?
