Is Play Playground Worth It? Game-Show Energy Inside the Luxor Pyramid

Play Playground stages about 20 oversized, host-refereed games on the Atrium Level of the Luxor — Bounce House, Poker Parkour, Doctor! Doctor!, Word Up, Biggle Ball, and the Duck Duck Boom ride among them — and scores every team on a venue-wide leaderboard. Play Social opened it in January 2024, and the production values land closer to a TV game show than an arcade: themed sets, staff who heckle and hype in equal measure, and original challenges you won't find at a Dave & Buster's.

By day it admits ages 13 and up with an adult; at 7 PM the floor flips to 21-plus, the full bar moves to center stage, and weekend nights stretch to 1 AM. The right group makes it — three to six competitive people is the sweet spot — and the wrong setup breaks it: nearly every game needs a team, entry-tier credits burn fast if you replay favorites, food and drinks cost extra at that level, and the room runs loud enough that conversation is a shout. Treat it as a sharp 90-minute burst rather than an evening anchor.

Can teenagers go to Play Playground?

Yes — ages 13 to 18 are admitted with an adult during the daytime window, and the four-person family pass is actually structured around two teens. Nobody under 13 gets in at any hour, so this isn't an option for younger kids.

How long does a visit take?

Plan on about 90 minutes with the standard credit load. The session ends when your credits run out, not on a timer, so replaying a favorite game shortens it. VIP passes work the opposite way: a fixed three-hour clock with unlimited plays.

Is Play Playground worth it if you don't drink?

The games are the point, and mocktails get equal billing — the VIP tier's included drink can be non-alcoholic. Daytime sessions skew toward families and teens anyway; the bar-forward energy only takes over after the 21+ changeover.

Is there food at Play Playground?

Yes — a full menu, plus a weekend brunch where bottomless mimosas and Bloody Marys headline. Since outside food can't come in, plan to eat on site or elsewhere in the Luxor before your session.

Who is behind Play Playground?

It opened January 18, 2024 as the first venue from Play Social, backed by WestRiver Group — the firm of Erik Anderson, who scaled Topgolf. That pedigree explains the staffed hosts, theatrical staging, and original games instead of off-the-shelf arcade cabinets.

Passes and what they includeThe standard Play Pass loads 195 game credits — roughly 90 minutes of steady play — plus one Duck Duck Boom ride. A VIP tier swaps credits for three hours of unlimited play with a complimentary cocktail or mocktail, a party tier adds drink tickets and a souvenir cup, and a four-person family option is built around two guests ages 13–18.

Food and drinkFull bar with cocktails served in signature vessels, mocktails for non-drinkers, and a food menu. No outside food or beverages are allowed in.

House rules and accessShirts and shoes required, no pool attire. Large bags, vaping devices, and outside drinks are prohibited. The floor is wheelchair friendly, and IDs are checked at the door after the evening changeover.
