Are the Free Circus Acts at Circus Circus Worth It? Guide

The free circus acts at Circus Circus have run since the property opened in October 1968, and Guinness crowned it the world's largest permanent circus back in 1974 — a title it still holds. Aerialists, acrobats, jugglers and specialty acts perform in the central ring of the Carnival Midway, upstairs on the mezzanine above the casino floor, with carnival and arcade games ringing the stage. No ticket, no reservation — walk up and watch.

The schedule is the thing to check now: performances run Friday through Monday only — 12:30 PM to 9:30 PM Friday and Saturday, 12:30 PM to 8:30 PM Sunday and Monday — hourly on the half hour, dark Tuesday through Wednesday and Thursday. Each act is one short routine (10–15 minutes) and the lineup rotates, so you can't pick what you'll catch. Standing room at the rail fills fast, the surrounding games are engineered to catch kids on the way out, and the property itself is a dated budget resort at the far north end of the Strip — come for a free act on the way to the Adventuredome, not as a pilgrimage.

Insider tipStake out the rail five minutes before the half hour, watch one act, then walk straight into the Adventuredome — the free show plus the dome makes the north-Strip trek actually pay off.

Frequently asked questions

Are the circus acts at Circus Circus still free?

Yes — completely free with no ticket or reservation. Only the surrounding Midway games and the Adventuredome next door cost money.

What days and times are the free circus acts?

Friday and Saturday 12:30 PM to 9:30 PM, Sunday and Monday 12:30 PM to 8:30 PM, with acts hourly on the half hour. There are no shows Tuesday through Thursday — the old daily schedule is gone, so plan around the four-day window.

Where are the acts inside Circus Circus?

Upstairs on the Carnival Midway — the central performance ring on the mezzanine above the casino floor, surrounded by carnival and arcade games.

Is it really the world's largest permanent circus?

Guinness said so in 1974 and the record still stands. The acts have run continuously since the resort opened on October 18, 1968.

Do you need to stay at the hotel to watch?

No — the shows are open to anyone on a walk-up basis. No hotel key, ticket or reservation involved.

How long does a visit take?

Catching one act takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Arrive a few minutes before the half hour to claim a spot at the rail — sightlines over the ring get blocked once the crowd builds.
