Is The Mentalist Worth It? Honest Review of Gerry McCambridge's Show
The Mentalist is Gerry McCambridge's mind-reading show — the longest-running mentalism act on the Strip at 20-plus years — playing the V2 upstairs showroom at the V Theater complex in Planet Hollywood's Miracle Mile Shops. McCambridge, an America's Got Talent semifinalist billed as "The Mentalist" since a 2004 NBC special, still performs every show himself: predictions, audience mind-reading, and a running comic commentary that keeps the tone closer to stand-up than séance. It runs about 75 minutes, Thursday through Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. (dark Wednesdays), with tickets from around $33 — one of the better value-per-astonishment ratios in town.
Set expectations on the package, not the performer: the V2 room is a compact mall showroom with basic staging, audience participation is constant (volunteers are on stage most of the show — sit back if that's not you), and the adult language earns its 16+ recommendation. This is mentalism, not hypnosis — nobody clucks like a chicken; the show is McCambridge appearing to know things he shouldn't.
