Is UNLV Basketball at Thomas & Mack Worth It? Runnin' Rebels in 2026-27, Honestly
UNLV men's basketball plays at the Thomas & Mack Center on campus, on a court named for Jerry Tarkanian, the coach who went 509-105 over 19 seasons and won the 1990 national title with a 103-73 rout of Duke, still the most lopsided championship game ever. The 2026-27 season is Josh Pastner's second as head coach, hired March 25, 2025. Exhibitions open October 7 against Utah, with BYU on October 24 and Missouri on October 29; the regular-season home opener is Tuesday, November 3 at 7 p.m. against Northern Arizona, Stanford visits Friday, November 13 at 6 p.m., and the Mountain West slate brings New Mexico, UTEP, Hawaii, UNR, San Jose State, Wyoming, Grand Canyon, Air Force and UC Davis through March 2. Two marquee dates are not on campus: the Players Era games at Michelob ULTRA Arena from November 17, Kansas first, and a December 12 game against Washington State at Lee's Family Forum in Henderson.
Tickets are sold through the arena's own box office, which lists prices only in the cart; UNLV students get in free. Third-party listings are resale and two of them carry the wrong dates. The 18,000-seat arena opened in 1983, sits about 15 minutes east of the Strip, prices parking per event and limits bags to clear 12-by-6-by-12-inch bags or a small clutch.
Expectations: the program is far from its 1990-91 peak, when the team went 34-1, and midweek non-conference games draw thin crowds in a big arena, which also makes them the cheapest live basketball in the city. The sports listings cover the arena-scale games at T-Mobile.
Insider tipPick the Stanford game on November 13 or a conference Saturday over a weeknight buy-game: the building only comes alive past 10,000 people, and those are the dates that get there.Check Tickets & Prices →
