Grand Canyon West Rim and Hoover Dam Combo Tour by Pink Jeep

Pink Jeep's 11-hour small-group day that pairs Grand Canyon West (Skywalk and lunch included) with a guided walk across Hoover Dam and a Power Plant tour below it. Hotel pickup at 7 AM; ages 3 and up.

Is the Pink Jeep Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam Combo Worth 11 Hours? Honest Review

Eleven hours, two landmarks, nothing left to pay for at either: that is the pitch of Pink Jeep's combo, and it holds up. The day starts with a 7 AM hotel pickup in the company's enclosed Tour Trekker and runs out through the Mojave to Grand Canyon West, where the Skywalk at Eagle Point, the Hualapai village, the Guano Point overlook and lunch at a rim cafe are all included. Then, instead of the quick photo stop most canyon tours make at Hoover Dam, the guide walks the group across the top of the dam past the spillways and the Winged Figures of the Republic, and down into the Power Plant with a Bureau of Reclamation guide to the platform above the eight generators of the Nevada powerhouse. Lake Mead and Colorado River views come with it, and the ride back ends the day.

Two things to know before you book. The dam tour depends on federal access: if the Bureau of Reclamation closes the generator room, the itinerary swaps in the Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge and the Boulder City Hoover Dam Museum instead, and you do not get a refund for the change. And 11 hours is a serious day; with a 7 AM pickup you are back around 6 PM, so do not plan a show that night without a cushion.

The operator's list price is $375 an adult and $355 for children aged 3 to 12; through the booking button it runs about $387 before fees. Under-3s are not allowed. If the dam's power plant is the only thing pulling you toward the combo, remember the standalone West Rim tour is two hours shorter and about $50 cheaper and still stops at the dam for photos; a separate evening Hoover Dam tour can cover the dam on another day for under $100.

Insider tipEat properly at the rim cafe: the dam stop comes after lunch, there is no second meal, and you will be on your feet across the dam and down in the power plant for the better part of two hours before the drive home.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the day really?

Plan on 11 hours from a 7 AM pickup, so a return around 6 PM. Traffic on US-93 and the queue at the dam's security checkpoint can stretch it, so leave the evening open.

Is the Hoover Dam Power Plant tour guaranteed?

No. The Bureau of Reclamation controls access and closes the generator room without much notice; when that happens the tour visits the Memorial Bridge and the Boulder City museum instead, and the price does not change.

What is included and what costs extra?

Everything on the itinerary is in the ticket: Skywalk admission, lunch, the Power Plant tour, water, parking and fees. The only extras are the Skywalk's official photos, since phones are not allowed on the glass, and gift-shop spending.

Is this better than doing the canyon and the dam on separate days?

Only if you have one day. Separately, the 9-hour West Rim tour plus an evening dam tour costs about the same, splits the walking across two days and lets you see the dam at sunset. The combo wins on convenience, not on value.

Can children come?

From age 3, at the child fare up to age 12. The length of the day and the amount of walking make it a better fit for older kids.
