Is the Rio Worth It? Honest Review, Rooms & Rates

The Rio Hotel & Casino is in the middle of a major revival, working with Hyatt to refresh its rooms, pool complex, convention space and dining. The headline perk has always been the rooms: they're suite-sized - noticeably larger than a standard Strip room - which makes the Rio strong value for the space.

It sits just off the Strip on West Flamingo Road, so reaching the main action means a short rideshare - but free self-parking and lower rates are real advantages if you've got a car. Home to the Penn & Teller and Comedy Cellar theaters, it's a comfortable, good-value base, with rates from around $37 a night before fees.

Budget the $52-plus-tax resort fee (about $59 a night as of September 2026); parking stays free (self and valet lots), and the Canteen Food Hall covers quick meals from ramen to cheesesteaks. The center Strip is about a mile east - five minutes by car, or a 20- to 25-minute walk over the Flamingo Road bridge across I-15 that most people skip.

Is parking free at the Rio?

Yes. Self-parking is free, and unlike almost every Strip resort, valet is free too. The Rio runs two garages plus open-air lots, so finding a spot is easy even on a busy show night.

How much is the resort fee, and what does it cover?

About $59 a night all-in ($52 plus tax) as of September 2026 - more than a base room rate on cheap dates. It covers Wi-Fi and pool access, and the hotel lists self and valet parking among the inclusions, so there is no separate parking charge.

How far is the Rio from the Strip, and can you walk?

It's about a mile west of center Strip on Flamingo Road - five minutes by car or rideshare. You technically can walk, but the route crosses the I-15 freeway on a long, exposed overpass, so nearly everyone drives instead.

What happened to the Carnival World Buffet at the Rio?

It's gone - the space now holds the Canteen Food Hall, with six counters (Attaboy Burger, Nama Nama, Tender Crush, Tony Luke's, Shogun Ramen and Southland Burrito Co.) serving quick meals instead of a single buffet line.

What are the Rio's check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is 4 p.m. and check-out is 11 a.m. - an hour earlier than the noon checkout many Strip hotels allow, so plan your final morning around it. You also must be at least 21 to reserve a room.
