Two to five hours by car, depending on the rim. The West Rim is about 125 to 130 miles away, the South Rim about 277, the North Rim about 265.

By car

  • West Rim (Grand Canyon West, with the Skywalk): 2 to 2.5 hours via US-93 past Hoover Dam.
  • South Rim (the national park's main village): 4.5 to 5 hours each way.
  • North Rim: about 5 hours, open mid-May to mid-October, and day-use only in 2026 after the 2025 fire destroyed the lodge.

By air

Helicopter tours from the Strip or the Boulder City airfield reach the West Rim in 45 minutes to an hour, which is why a canyon landing fits in a half day. Airplane tours to the South Rim take about an hour each way.

The time-zone catch

Every rim is in Arizona, which does not observe daylight saving time. From November to March the canyon runs an hour ahead of your Las Vegas phone, so the West Rim's last entry (4:30 p.m. most of the year) arrives sooner than you think.

From the airport the drive times are about the same as from the Strip. Every desert trip is in day trips from Las Vegas; the rims compared in South Rim vs West Rim; fly or drive in helicopter vs bus.
