Are the STRAT thrill rides still open, and how high are they?
1 answer
Partly. Big Shot still runs, launching riders to about 1,081 feet, and SkyJump still drops people 829 feet down the side of the tower. Insanity was removed in 2023 and X-Scream has been closed for maintenance with no reopening date.
What is running
- Big Shot: fires 16 riders from the 921-foot platform up the mast to about 1,081 feet at 45 mph, roughly 4 Gs, under a minute of ride. $36 with tower admission. 48-inch minimum height; riders 15 and under need a parent. Runs 2 to 10 p.m., dark Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
- SkyJump: a controlled descent on a guide wire from the 108th floor, 855 feet up, at 40-plus mph, landing standing on a pad. $139.99 Monday to Thursday, $169.99 Friday to Sunday; $99 happy hour 2 to 3 p.m. on weekdays, $99.99 for STRAT guests and Nevada residents. Minimum age 14, maximum weight 265 pounds.
- The tower itself: 1,149 feet, the tallest observation tower in the US. Deck entry $28, open until 1 a.m. most nights.
Not running
- Insanity: the arm that dangled riders over the edge, removed for good in 2023.
- X-Scream: the see-saw car, closed for maintenance; still down when we checked in September 2026.
Any page selling a trio of tower rides is out of date.
Tips: everything up top stops for wind, rain or lightning, and the deck is cold even on a warm night. Dusk is the best window, when the Strip switches on below you; it also has the longest elevator line. Pages: The STRAT tower, Big Shot, SkyJump.
