What is there to do at Springs Preserve, and how long do you need?
1 answer
Two museums, a frontier town, a little train, gardens and trails on one ticket, 10 to 15 minutes west of the Strip. Plan on half a day; the museum alone takes about 90 minutes.
What the ticket covers
- The Origen Museum, with its flash-flood show and live-animal habitats at the back, which half the visitors miss
- The Nevada State Museum, on the same campus
- Boomtown 1905, a recreated frontier town, and an eight-minute train ride out to it
- 3.5 miles of trails, the botanical garden and a solar demonstration house
- The Butterfly Habitat, spring and fall only; the fall 2026 run is October 3 to November 23
Practical details (September 2026)
- Price: $18.95 for out-of-state adults, $10.95 for kids 3 to 17, under 2 free; Nevada residents pay about half.
- Days: Thursday through Monday only, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., last entry at 3. A Tuesday or Wednesday visit ends in the parking lot.
- Payment: cashless. Parking is free, with EV chargers.
- Where: 333 South Valley View Boulevard.
How to do it: outdoors first (trails, train, Boomtown) before 11 a.m., then the two air-conditioned museums through the hot hours. The trails have almost no shade, and they close along with the train whenever the Weather Service posts an excessive-heat warning. For ages 5 to 12 it is the easiest win in town.
