Oscar's Steakhouse

Oscar's is downtown's mob-lore steakhouse, named for Oscar Goodman — the mob lawyer who became mayor — and installed inside the Plaza's glass dome hanging over Main Street, with 270-degree views straight down the Fremont canopy. The tagline is 'Beef, Booze and Broads'; the menu names its cuts for Goodman's old clients: Joey C's filet, Bobby G's strip, No Nose's Mob Meatballs.

The value proposition is old Vegas at downtown math: USDA Prime steaks, a $70-120 all-in dinner, same-week reservations, and a genuinely generous happy hour — Monday-Thursday it runs the full 5-to-10pm evening in the bar and lounge with discounted drinks and bites (Friday-Sunday 5-7). A 2025 critics' pass scored the atmosphere a flat five.

Fair framing: the theme is laid on thick by design, the food plays solid-classic rather than revelatory, and the dome catches late-sun heat at certain tables. But as the antidote to $200 Strip steakhouses — with a better story and a better view of the neon — downtown has nothing else close. Dinner nightly 5-10.
