Pizza Rock

Pizza Rock

Pizza Rock is world champion Tony Gemignani's four-oven downtown pizzeria — #33 in 50 Top Pizza USA 2025, with the 20-per-day Quattro Forni and an $8-pizza happy hour Mon-Fri 3-6pm. Loud on purpose.

Is Pizza Rock Worth It? Honest Review & What to Order

Pizza Rock is 13-time World Pizza Champion Tony Gemignani's downtown temple — and the rare pizzeria with four different ovens (coal, wood, gas, electric) running four temperature regimes from 550 to 1000 degrees, because Neapolitan, New York, Sicilian, and Roman styles physically cannot share a fire. The 2025 edition of 50 Top Pizza USA ranked it #33 in the country.

The order architecture: each style from its correct oven — the World Pizza Cup-winning Napoletana Margherita from the 1000-degree wood fire, the Cal Italia (gold medalist, Food Network) from the gas deck — and for the completists, the Quattro Forni, a single pizza touched by all four ovens, capped at twenty per day and gone by early evening. Pizzas run $16-24; a full night lands $25-40 a head.

The room rocks loud by design (the name isn't decorative), weekends run touristy with waits, and the semi-truck cab over the bar sets the volume expectations. The Monday-Friday 3-6pm happy hour — $5 PBR, $8 pizzas — is downtown's best pizza economics, full stop. Across from Downtown Grand at 201 N 3rd.

Insider tip Go early for the Quattro Forni — the four-oven pizza caps at twenty a day and rarely survives past 7pm — and order each style from its proper oven (the wood-fired Margherita is the World Cup winner). The 3-6pm weekday happy hour is downtown's best pizza math.

Frequently asked questions

What's special about the four ovens?

Each runs a different fuel and temperature — coal, wood (1000°F for Neapolitan), gas, and electric — because authentic regional styles demand different fires. Gemignani built the room around that principle; order by style, not by topping.

What is the Quattro Forni?

One pizza cooked in sequence across all four ovens — capped at twenty per day and usually sold out by early evening. It's the house's signature stunt and genuinely worth the early arrival.

What should I order?

The Napoletana Margherita (World Pizza Cup winner) from the wood oven, the Cal Italia (Food Network gold) with its balsamic drizzle, and the Quattro Forni if timing allows. Pizzas run $16-24.

When is it open?

11:30am-10pm Monday-Thursday, to midnight Friday-Saturday — with the happy hour Monday-Friday 3-6pm ($5 PBR, $8 pizzas). Reservations via OpenTable help on weekend nights.

Where is it exactly?

201 N 3rd St — across the street from Downtown Grand, two blocks off Fremont. Look for the semi-truck cab bursting through the wall over the DJ booth.
