Is Asylum Bar + Arcade Worth It? Honest Review
Asylum Bar + Arcade is AREA15's two-level barcade — 30-plus arcade cabinets, a dozen pinball machines (Metallica, Deadpool, Ghostbusters, The Simpsons), pool tables, skeeball, bubble hockey, and foosball, wrapped around craft beer, cocktails, and boozy slushies like the King Coopa's Cucumber Margarita. Despite the name, the horror theming runs light — AREA15 itself now pitches it as a laid-back vintage arcade, which is closer to the truth.
The age architecture takes a minute: the ground floor welcomes all ages by day, the mezzanine is 21-plus always, the whole venue flips 21-plus on Friday and Saturday after 8pm, and AREA15's district-wide rule bars under-21s after 10pm regardless. Games run pay-per-play on tokens — the standing online deal loads $25 of play for $20 — and entry itself is free, including the Friday-Saturday Asylum Live DJ-and-karaoke nights from around 8:30pm.
Honest math: token play adds up faster than a flat-rate arcade, official hours run a compact 11:30am-10pm, and weekend DJ nights trade game-focus for party volume. As a pre-Meow Wolf hour or a nostalgia session with drinks, it does exactly what it says — minus the asylum.
Insider tip Load the $25-for-$20 token deal online before you arrive — per-game paying bleeds money fast. Bringing under-21s? Go daytime and stay on the ground floor: the mezzanine is always 21+, weekends flip fully 21+ after 8pm, and all of AREA15 does after 10.
