The Laundry Room

The Laundry Room is the real thing among Vegas speakeasies: roughly sixteen seats in a converted laundry room hidden at the back of Commonwealth on Fremont East, run on house rules that would get you thrown out of most bars for enforcing — no photography, no phone calls, no standing at the bar, keep your voice down, and don't shout for the bartender. They mean all of it.

There's largely no fixed menu. You tell the bartender your base spirit and where you want the flavor to go, and the drink is built for you — dealer's-choice craft cocktails in the pre-Prohibition mold, made slowly for a room small enough that slow works. Seatings run earlier than the host bar's club hours: roughly 6-10pm Sunday through Thursday and 5-9pm Friday-Saturday, with tables capped around 90 minutes to two hours and groups capped at four.

The honest math: reservations are effectively mandatory (book online through the bar's reservation page — weekends go days out), the table releases about ten minutes past your slot, and the bill stacks a two-drink minimum, a mandatory bottomless popcorn, and an automatic 25 percent gratuity. Business casual is enforced. It's the least casual drink downtown — and for cocktail people, the most worthwhile.
