Is Herbs & Rye Worth It? Honest Review

Herbs & Rye is two great bars wearing one address: a Golden-Age cocktail room run by award-winning founder-bartender Nectaly Mendoza, and the home of the most famous happy hour in Las Vegas — the one where the steaks go half off. It sits in a dark, moody room on West Sahara, ten minutes off-Strip, and it has been the industry crowd's clubhouse for over a decade.

The deal that built the legend survives intact in 2026, in two windows every operating day: 5-8pm and again midnight to 3am, Monday through Saturday. Fifty percent off cocktails, wine, beer, appetizers, oysters — and the starred steaks, each with a side included: the 8oz flat iron drops to about $24, the 16oz ribeye to $46, the filet to $35. At midnight. With a proper Sazerac. There is no catch except the wait.

And the wait is real: no happy-hour reservations, so the 5pm window means lining up before the doors and the weekend crush means standing. It's closed Sundays, the room gets loud when full, and you'll need a ride out west. The late window — midnight to 3am — is the connoisseur's move: same prices, half the crowd, and the bartenders at full conversational strength.

Insider tip Skip the 5pm scrum and take the midnight-to-3am window — identical half-off prices, a fraction of the wait, and the kitchen holds quality to close. No reservations for happy hour, so whichever window you pick, arrive at its opening minute.

Frequently asked questions

Is the half-off steak happy hour still real?

Yes — verified on the current menu. Starred steaks drop 50% during both windows: the 8oz flat iron to about $24, NY strip to $29, filet to $35, ribeye to $46, each with a side (mac and cheese, creamed corn, mashed potato, asparagus, or tots).

What are the happy hour times?

Two windows every open day, Monday-Saturday: 5-8pm and midnight-3am. The discount covers cocktails, wine, beer, all appetizers, oysters, and the starred steaks. Closed Sundays.

Can I reserve for happy hour?

No — happy hour is first-come, and the 5pm window draws lines before the doors open, especially Friday-Saturday. Arrive by 4:45pm, or use the far calmer midnight window.

Is it a bar or a steakhouse?

Genuinely both: the cocktail program is nationally awarded — founder Nectaly Mendoza has Tales of the Cocktail honors — and the steaks stand on their own at full price ($42-78). The happy hour just lets you have both at once.

Where is it?
