Frankie's Tiki Room

Frankie's Tiki Room

Frankie's Tiki Room is America's only 24/7 tiki bar - a windowless West Charleston dive where all eight house cocktails run $10 ($25 with the collectible mug) and the smoke is part of the decor. From the Double Down family.

Is Frankie's Tiki Room Worth It? Honest Review

Frankie's Tiki Room is the 24-hour dive end of the tiki spectrum - a small, windowless box on West Charleston where the carved gods, blowfish lamps, and lava-glow bar haven't changed since P Moss (the Double Down Saloon owner) opened it in December 2008, and where the doors literally never lock. It's the only round-the-clock tiki bar in America, and it acts like it.

The system is beautifully simple: eight house cocktails - Lava Letch, Bearded Clam, Green Gasser, Malekula, Thurston Howl among them - every one $10, every one strong, and every one available in its own collectible ceramic mug for $25, take the mug home. Retired mugs trade as collector pieces. Friday 4-8pm adds $4 Aloha Coolers, and a Hawaiian shirt earns you half off your first drink.

Know what you're walking into: indoor cigarette smoking is permitted and can hang thick (vapes and pipes, oddly, are banned), there's no kitchen - though delivery to the bar is fair game - and the stretch of Charleston outside is charmless. That's the covenant: real dive, real tiki, real 4am. The tourists who get it, get it completely.

Insider tip Wear a Hawaiian shirt on Friday between 4 and 8pm - half off your first drink plus $4 Aloha Coolers. Smoke-sensitive? Take the seat nearest the door and go weekday daytime, when the room is at its clearest and calmest.

Frequently asked questions

Is Frankie's really open 24 hours?

Yes - 24 hours a day, every day of the year, no exceptions. The 4am crowd is bartenders getting off shift, which tells you the quality holds around the clock.

How much are drinks?

Every one of the eight house tiki cocktails is $10 - Lava Letch, Bearded Clam, Green Gasser, Malekula, Tiki Bandit, Bombora Blast, Thurston Howl - or $25 served in its own collectible ceramic mug that you keep.

Can you smoke inside?

Cigarettes, yes - it's one of the few bars where indoor smoking is permitted, and the haze gets real on busy nights. Vapes and pipes are banned. Non-smokers: near the door is your seat.

Is there food?

No kitchen at all - but bringing in delivery or takeout is accepted practice. Order to the bar and nobody blinks.

What's the deal with the mugs?

Each house cocktail has a custom ceramic mug designed by tiki artists; $25 buys the drink plus the mug. Designs retire periodically, and retired mugs have a real collector market.
