Is Prowl Worth It? Honest Review
Prowl is the Arts District's jungle — a sub-50-seat cocktail den on Commerce Street (next door to sister bar Stray Pirate) where lava-rock walls, moss, and glowing orbs frame the party trick: a digital black panther that slinks across hi-def LED 'windows' behind the bar, channeling Elvis's Jungle Room by way of 2025. It opened in June of that year and made Eater's hottest-new-bars list within two months.
The drinks come from Chris 'Tater' Gutierrez (ex-Oak & Ivy and Atomic Liquors) and lean playful-but-built: the Sex Panther arrives in a ceramic cat head ($15), the 'For a Good Time, Call' cocktail comes with a phone number that actually rewards dialing, and the Neon Flamingo ($14) is the accessible opener. The one standing deal is a $10 Pisco Punch, every day.
Scale expectations to the room: fewer than 50 seats means weekend waits, food is chips-and-salsa territory at best, and the theme is fully committed — minimalists should drink elsewhere. As a two-stop Commerce Street crawl with Stray Pirate, though, it's the District's easiest great evening right now. Open daily from 4pm (2pm weekends).
Insider tip Order the 'For a Good Time, Call' cocktail and actually dial the number on the garnish — the Easter egg is worth it. The room is under 50 seats: weeknight early evenings get you a booth; weekends, plan to hover or start next door at Stray Pirate.
