The Underground

The Underground

The Underground is the Mob Museum's basement speakeasy with a working distillery — enter FREE through the hidden alley door with the weekly password (posted on its social accounts). Prohibition cocktails, house moonshine, weekend jazz.

Is The Underground Worth It? Honest Review

The Underground is the Mob Museum's basement speakeasy — and the only bar in Vegas with its own working distillery. The house makes Mob Museum Moonshine on site, the cocktail list runs proper Prohibition-era builds (a Bee's Knees, the bourbon-and-sherry Marlow, a Moonshine Mayhem on the house spirit), and the room is dressed with real Roaring Twenties exhibits, because it technically is one.

The entry ritual is the fun part, and it's real: a password gets you in FREE through the hidden side door off the alley — no museum ticket, no reservation. The password rotates weekly and is posted on the museum speakeasy's own social accounts; look it up before you walk over. The paid route through the museum works too, but the alley door is the move. Hours run daily from 11am to 11pm (midnight on Friday-Saturday), with live jazz and blues on Friday and Saturday from 8pm and Sunday evenings.

Honest notes: daytime overlaps with museum foot traffic, so the secret-bar atmosphere really lands after dark; bar seating is limited; and evenings run 21-plus. As a free stop two blocks off Fremont with house-distilled moonshine and a working password door, nothing downtown matches the concept.

Insider tip Grab the current password from the speakeasy's social accounts before you go, then use the exterior side door off the alley — you walk in free without touching the museum ticket line. Go after dark; daytime it shares crowds with the museum.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get in without a museum ticket?

Use the hidden side door off the alley and give the weekly password — entry is free, no reservation or museum admission needed. The password rotates every week and is posted on the Underground's own social media accounts.

When is it open?

Daily — 11am to 11pm Sunday through Thursday, until midnight Friday and Saturday. Evenings are 21+; live music plays Friday and Saturday from 8pm and Sunday from 7pm.

What should I order?

Something on the house spirit: the Moonshine Mayhem uses the Mob Museum Moonshine distilled a few feet away. The rest of the list runs Prohibition classics — Bee's Knees, the bourbon-sherry Marlow, Giggle Water — with shareable bites on the side.

Is there really a distillery inside?

Yes — a working distillery produces the house moonshine on site, and the room doubles as a Prohibition exhibit with real artifacts. You're drinking inside the display.

Is it kid-friendly?

The museum is; the speakeasy's bar area runs 21+ in the evening. Daytime visitors passing through with museum tickets will see it, but the drinking crowd is adults.
