Velveteen Rabbit

Velveteen Rabbit is where the Arts District cocktail scene started: sisters Christina and Pamela Dylag opened it on South Main in July 2013, back when the neighborhood was antique stores and optimism, and it's still the block's craft standard-bearer. The room is thrifted-whimsical — local art, vinyl, mismatched vintage furniture — and the drinks are serious without announcing it.

The menu rotates seasonally around house-made syrups, shrubs, and infusions (past hits like the Hibiscus Paloma and Exquisite Corpse set the register), with a shareable Feast of Herod punch that serves up to eight. Magic Hour runs daily 5-7pm: $6 punch and house wine, $8 Montucky-and-rye-shot combo, $12 feature cocktails. Weekends add DJs, no cover, and the crowd doubles.

The patio is the not-so-secret weapon — recently rebuilt in full pink with a Sloane Siobhan mural, umbrellas, and light-projected walls, it's simultaneously the best photo backdrop and the best actual place to drink in the District. Cons are the usual smalls: tight room, minimal food, weekend noise, and $12-16 cocktails outside Magic Hour. Book the SevenRooms table for Friday-Saturday; walk in any other time.
